U.S. Mint Producing 250,000 July 4 Privy Mark Quarters

The United States Mint will place 250,000 limited-edition 1776 ~ 2026 Declaration of Independence quarters into circulation nationwide, giving Americans a chance to find quarters bearing a special “July 4” privy mark in everyday change.

Unlike the regular Philadelphia- and Denver-struck versions, the limited-edition quarters will carry no mint mark. They will be randomly mixed with standard Declaration of Independence quarters and distributed to banks and financial institutions ahead of Independence Day.

“This is more than a coin; it’s a defining moment in our nation’s story,” said U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis.

The Mint said it hopes the quarters will be shared, saved and remembered as part of the Semiquincentennial celebration.

July 4 Privy Mark Creates Circulating Rarity

With production capped at 250,000 coins, the privy-marked quarters will represent only a tiny fraction of the Declaration of Independence quarters entering circulation. The U.S. Mint had already struck 89.8 million standard examples through May, and production totals for the first two 2026 quarter designs suggest the Declaration issue’s final mintage could exceed 200 million.

The sharp contrast between the limited privy-marked edition and the broader circulation release gives the variety strong appeal among collectors seeking the scarcer version of the one-year design.

The limited-edition quarter carries the same Declaration of Independence design as the standard 2026 issue. Its obverse depicts Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration and the nation’s third president, along with the dual date 1776 ~ 2026.

The reverse depicts the Liberty Bell ringing, with its well-known crack visible. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, QUARTER DOLLAR and THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Rolls and Bags Released Earlier

The standard 1776 ~ 2026 Declaration of Independence quarter entered circulation June 1 as the third of five one-year quarter designs celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Taken directly from production runs, circulating-quality examples were also offered to collectors by the Mint beginning June 16. Options included a two-roll set containing one 40-coin roll from Philadelphia and one from Denver for $56, along with separate 100-coin bags from each production facility priced at $63.

The products became unavailable shortly after release. Two-roll sets lasted only minutes, while both bags remained available for just over 15 minutes.

Five Quarters for America’s 250th

The Declaration of Independence quarter follows the Mayflower Compact and Revolutionary War designs. U.S. Constitution and Gettysburg Address quarters will complete the five-coin 2026 Semiquincentennial quarter program.

Authorized under the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 (Public Law 116-330), the one-year designs commemorate major events and documents connected to the founding and development of the United States.
