Only 250,000 of the limited-edition quarters are being released nationwide, giving collectors another reason to search pocket change, bank rolls and everyday transactions.

To qualify, the submitter must have a paid NGC collector membership, which currently starts at $39 annually. NGC dealers are not eligible.

The reward is not an offer to purchase the coin. NGC will grade and return the first qualifying quarter to its owner along with the $2,500 payment.

How to Identify the Quarter

The special quarter features a “JULY 4th” privy mark to the left of Thomas Jefferson’s portrait on the obverse. It also carries the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 but no mint mark, distinguishing it from standard Declaration of Independence quarters struck in Philadelphia and Denver.

Its reverse is unchanged, depicting the Liberty Bell ringing with its well-known crack visible. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, QUARTER DOLLAR and THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.

Entering Circulation Nationwide

The United States Mint announced June 23 that the privy-marked quarters would be randomly mixed with standard Declaration of Independence quarters and distributed through banks and financial institutions ahead of Independence Day.

The special pieces represent a small fraction of the Declaration quarters expected to circulate. Through May, the Mint had struck 89.8 million standard examples, and production could eventually exceed 200 million based on totals for the first two 2026 quarter designs.

NGC America250 Label Available

Collectors submitting the privy-marked quarter may request NGC’s officially licensed America250 certification label, which features the official logo of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission.

The standard Declaration of Independence quarter entered circulation June 1 as the third of five one-year designs celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. It followed the Mayflower Compact and Revolutionary War quarters and will be succeeded by U.S. Constitution and Gettysburg Address designs.
